I noticed an “oddity” today which appears on both the White Dimmer and White Fan Switch. With no automations programmed against the config button, if the light bar is lit, double clicking the config button switches the light bar off (and the light bar returns to its default color/brightness). A single or triple click on the config button does not affect the light bar at all. I have not seen a write up anywhere that describes this feature (though I could have missed something). Is this a bug or a feature, if so what is the feature?
Can you clarify what you mean by “light bar”? Are you referring to the LED strip on the switch?
If so, when you press 2x on the config button, you are saying that the LED strip on the switch returns to its default color and brightness. So it sounds like what is going away is a notification. If that is the case, a 2x press of the config will cancel a notification, at least on the Blues and Reds. That is the expected behavior. Could that be what is happening?
Yes I mean the LED Strip. Your explanation make sense though the White switches don’t have a “notification” feature (at least not one I have run into so far).
Thanks for letting me know. This “feature” makes an automation that I was doing a little harder since I was using multiple clicks on the config button to trigger a canopy fan/light unit (1 click - 33% , 2 clicks 66% etc). I was also changing the LED Strip color to show the fan was on/off etc. I’ve added an additional action to the automation to reset the color bar color just for the double click case. This works just fine, but it is a little inelegant.
Thanks for the info.
Got it. I do not have white switches so I am basing my suspicions on the reds and blues. So you have the default color/brightness and then another “temporary” color/brightness that goes away when the config button is pressed 2x. How is that “temporary” color/brightness being set?
Via a Home Assistant animation.
Got it. So my best guess is that animation is considered a notification, which is probably getting canceled by the 2x config push. I looked through the white documentation and didn’t see anything which would indicate how to turn that feature off, similar to how you can turn it off with the Red or the Blue. Someone using a white dimmer maybe able to provide further information.
If it’s possible, you could change the default color and brightness instead of setting the notification. That way a 2x config push would not cancel it. Not sure if that’s possible because less things are exposed with the white series, but worth looking around.
I believe you are correct. Param 262 on the blue switch (I would not have found this without your help) allows you to disable the “clear notification” feature. My guess is that when the White software was created from (I assume) the blue software base that the feature was left in there however without the ability to disable it (the blue default is “on”).
It would be nice if Inovelli could add the ability to disable the “Clear Notification via 2x Tap of Config/Favorites Button” feature for applications that do not need it as they do with param 262 on the blue switch.
