White Series: Dimmer range is "unbalanced" - can it be calibrated so 50% is half-brightness?

I installed my first White dimmer switch today (using Apple HomeKit, wired with a neutral), as a replacement for a Lutron Caseta. The Caseta switch (also through HomeKit) used the full range of dimming on my lights, so at 50%, the lights looks half on, at 10% they are just barely on, etc. But with the Inovelli, the lights appear at full brightness down to about 50%, half brightness at about 30%, and so forth. Is there a way to calibrate the dimmer to get at least kind of close to the full range of dimming?

You’d want to set the minimum and maximum dim levels to do what you’re looking for. If you set the maximum to 51, then the old 51% on becomes your new 100% and so on.

I’m not sure what the hub support is like with matter currently, but it looks like there is a way to do this at the switch if that’s not a configurable option through HomeKit.

Thanks. Is 51 the factory default value? It’s not clear from the local configuration table what the out-of-the box parameter values are.

I think the wording just plays a trick on people.

Option 4: minimum dim level
Some bulbs will turn off at percentages higher than 0. This all depends on the bulb manufacturer and their dimming curve. I’ve had some lights that were completely off until 10% brightness. So you go to option 4 with this and start clicking the paddle up until you see the light turn on. Save the setting so now whatever that percent was will become the new 0%.

Option 5: maximum dim level
Some bulbs will be max brightness at certain resistance passed thru the switch. Again dependent on manufacturer curves. Go to option 5 and start clicking the up paddle until you no longer see a change in brightness happening then click back down come back to the last change and save it there. The minimum setting you can set the maximum to is 51%, meaning if went to this setting and only clicked up 1x, the brightness would be 51% on the switch, if you save that, that will become your new 100%.

Lutron (at least Caseta Diva) has these same settings, they just called it Trim.

Thanks. I definitely understand Trim on the Caseta.

On the min end, your solution works. I can get it so 1% on the Home app is just barely giving off a tiny bit of light. But on the max end, 51% still appears to be too high. At the lowest max setting, I can dim 50% of that and the lights are still at full brightness.

FWIW, the switch controls 4 12W LEDs (75-watt equivalent).

AFAIK, there isn’t a way to alter the brightness curve. However, you could try switching from leading to trailing edge or vice versa to see if one is preferable.

Thanks. I didn’t notice much of a difference between leading and trailing. But I appreciate the suggestion.

Drop max brightness to 25%! That should work for you

That’s what I would like to do. But according to the documentation, the lowest max dim is 50%.

Can you switch the White dimmer to use trailing edge instead of leading edge?

I can, but it doesn’t have an effect.
