White Series Dimmer (VTM31-SN) - Bug/Enhancement Thread

Enhancement I’d love: ability to set (max) brightness of the LED strip when it’s in its default mode displaying the light state. That is, I want it to keep showing the gradient illustrating current brightness, but we should be able to make the whole gradient, for example, half as bright for dark rooms. Thanks for a great product!

Yes, this is very common. They have a beta firmware that fixes the issue, so it’s just a matter of how soon they can release it.

If you have Home Assistant, this can be done using a simple automation (it can also be done using iOS automations but is a bit trickier to detect the current state when the double-tap is detected).

If you can live with using double-taps, its even easier to set up. With double-taps, you can just set up to always go to 100% or 1% on a double-tap; you don’t have to check if it is already on or off. With single-tap, you have to do an extra check for the On/Off conditions at the time the tap is detected.

Personally, I’m not in favor of anything being put into switch firmware that can be handled by an automation. The more complex the switch firmware is made, the more likely it is to have bugs and unintended side-effects.

Any update on release date. Thought was coming in July. I haven’t seen a update via HA.

That’s reasonable, but for the single tap down I have been unable to make it work on Apple Home. When the switch is on and turned off, the switch emits both a state change (on to off) and a button press (single tap down). Oftentimes the state change is picked up first, so the light then turns on to min brightness when I was trying to turn it off.

If you have a solution for this that would be great!

You could enable local protection mode (hold down on the top part of the paddle (on) while simultaneously tapping the configuration button ten (10) times) and then use automation to turn the switch on and off and from min to max brightness. Local protection mode stops the physical buttons on the switch from doing anything, allowing you to fully control the switch via automation.

Hi there,

I am currently looking into this for you and will have an update on the status of this as soon as I can!

Thank you for your patience on this.

Hi there,

Thank you for your patience on this. We are expecting the new White Series Firmware update any day now, so hopefully you are hearing from us soon on this!

Thank you.

I like my white switch (I use it in smart mode), always fast and reliable. Ive got a few automations that fix the dimmer bar light to make it more functional. But sometimes when the power goes out it fully resets itself, and I have to reprogram all the button functions and automations in HomeKit again. It’s happened twice over the last year I’ve owned it. Is this a known issue? I have other HomeKit switches that don’t have this issue, it’s just this one switch.

Any new ETA?

Yes, but then you face potential delays and a non-functional switch if you are having network issues. One of the selling points (for me) is that Inovelli switches are instant and reliable - just like a non-smart switch.

Hi there,

Unfortuantely, no updated ETA at this time. As soon as we have a new update on this, we will let you all know.

Thank you for your patience on this.

Hi there,

This is an odd issue. Is this your only Inovelli switch or are the other switches you mentioned that you have also ours?

Thank you.

Just this one. The rest of my switches are Lutron picos integrated with homebridge. I only did one to test over a year before I swap everything over to Inovelli.
The remote stays in HomeKit after a sudden power loss, I just have to re add what the buttons do as well as remake any automations that are associated with it. (The automation itself still exists in HomeKit but the device and the command are gone)

Hi there,

Thank you for the additional information. I will discuss this with the team to see if anyone else has seen this before. I am wondering if this is related to a read/write memory issue that I believe should be addressed in the next firmware update.

The only solution I can think of for Apple Home is to trigger your automation using double-tap rather than single tap, or use an automation based on the “Config” button for the min. brightness.

Hi there,

Are you on the latest 1.05 firmware? When this issue occurs, does it need to be added back to the network? Also, do you need to factory reset it first or if it will just add back to the network.

Is it possible to set the load brightness/percentage for the off state? I want to use automation to set the off state brightness so that it’ll act as a night light when not on.

Can we define “any day now” for the update?

Can we define any day now a little better. Was thinking that meant like less than 2 weeks but it’s been almost a month. Thanks in advance.

Bound light turn on level -

If I bind lights to a switch and dim them and turn them off, they turn on at the dimmed level, not full brightness.

With the Blue switches there is a parameter “Binding off to on sync level”, that solves this problem. Is there a similar solution for the White switches?
