I had to factory reset one of my fan switches because it just became uncontrollable in Apple Home. The problem was that I use local configuration to disable the LED when the fan is off. The local configuration options table in the documentation appears to be incorrect. Both options 4 and 5 select the LED bar color. 4 when the fan is off, and 5 is when the fan is on. Option 6 does seem to control the intensity of the led when the fan is on. Option 7 says it is a timeout control for displaying the speed changes, but it seems to be the LED level for when the fan is turned off. Could someone double check the table? Also, if anyone has an in at Apple and could get us matter bindings and the ability to configure these options from the Home app I would appreciate it.
Local config 6 is intensity when off. Set it to the minimum value and the LED will be off when the Fan is off.
I’m not sure I see Apple changing things like this soon. I use Home Assistant to manage everything and then push devices to Apple Home via the Homekit bridge so my wife can use the interface she is used to.
I just did this myself when I set the switch back up. Option 6 set the intensity of the LED when the fan was on. Option 7 set the intensity when the fan was off. The table doesn’t say that, but that’s the real world behavior I just had with my switch. I actually had this same problem when I set them up initially, I preordered them and so that was around when they came out, but I never made a post about it. I guess it is possible that the switches I have have some sort of problem, but on my switch option 6 is intensity when on, and option 7 is intensity when off. It’s a consistent behavior on the four switches in my home
What software version are you on?
VTM35-SN version 1.0.0. I saw there was a beta version, but I don’t think it’s available in Apple home because I haven’t seen any software updates offered.
I’m on 1.0.1r1. That probably explains the difference.
