I just installed the new White dimmer in an apple environment. Single Pole with neutral. New Apple TV 4K hard wired for the edge router. It’s on ios 18 and so is my iPhone.
The switch added to HomeKit no problem. I can use Siri to voice control it, but no automations work.
I created double tap to control my bedroom lamps, I watched the app to make sure I knew which button was which. I created when my door unlocks change the led red. They work in the home app when I hit test, but will not work on the switch. I have factory reset the switch twice. I removed it from the home app and keychain and waited about 18 hours before re adding it. I have also unplugged all of my Apple TVs and killed power to the switch twice.
I have Idevices switches and they work fine with the same led automation so I know it works.
Any ideas before I return the switch. I am thinking it must be defective.
When you remove the switch and add it again it can change the button assignment. Make your shortcuts save them. Then go back to the screen where it shows all three buttons and do your double clicks, check to make sure that button the automation is assigned on is actually “highlighting” showing the action for the double click. If it is, but your automation still isn’t running it’s an apple problem.
Yes I know about the buttons change. It doesn’t work at all. I can literally program every button press to turn on a lamp and none will work. I can see the button presses in the home app though. I can do any automation like turn on led at sunset. Won’t work. Turn on led if door unlocks, won’t work. Will work in home app if I hit test automation. Automations work with all my other accessories. I can have an automation turn iDevices led on and inovelli led on at sunset and only the iDevices switch led turns on. So I know Apple is working.
I feel like I have done all possible trouble shooting and only a bad switch is left.
If you can command the switch on and off and turn the led bar on and off and change colors from the home app it’s not the switch. Why your automation doesn’t work on it, maybe only tim apple can say.
Can you post some pictures or video of it?
I will say sometimes new automations don’t sync immediately. Restarting the hub and waiting some time can resolve it. I’m sure you’ve tried that already but after restarts it does also take a few to get the thread network balanced out again in some cases.
I actually have 4 4K Apple TVs and a HomePod.
I unplugged everything last night for 15 minutes or so. Then only plugged in 1 Apple TV. Then killed power to the switch for about a minute.
That was last night and still a no go.
It usually takes a little bit for things to settle down after a power outage but no more that 15-30 minutes. Got home from work today and still nothing.
I will try and get a video, but it won’t be tonight.
It is on firmware 1.9 I believe.
It gets a green light for matter strength.
But I have noticed in HomeKit it is constantly getting no response and then updating. My other accessories don’t seem to do that.
That makes more sense. If it’s getting no response issues then it can’t trigger an automation because the switch can’t be reached. Do you have a primary hub set? Is the primary hub the one closest to the switch? What’s the distance to your closest hub?
If in understanding correctly you left the other hubs unplugged and only left 1 on and during that time the switch was showing green for thread signal strength but you are still getting updating/no response?
I hate to just list questions but it does help narrow down the problem, even if I’m not the one with the answer.
Do you have other thread devices?
Are they battery powered or mains powered?
How many “routers” are active on your thread network? (Use eve app to look)
Do other thread devices give no response or just the switch?
I have 6 thread routers not counting the switch.
4 hard wired Apple TV 4k’s, one home pod. Not sure what the other one is.
1 is in the same room as the switch
The switch has always gotten the green status when testing thread connection on the switch. Even before factory resetting the switch and turning everything off. I just factory reset the switch for the third time. I will set it back up tomorrow and hope for the best.
I just set up my first switch and having the same issue. Buttons not responding at all. Did you ever get a fix or did you completely swap the switch. I have a second one but didn’t want to do a complete reinstall. Thanks.
I resolved my issue. I created a new Apple home from scratch. Moved 1 Apple TV to the new home and everything worked fine. Took me a few days to migrate everything from the old to new home, but so far everything is good. Have white dimmer a white fan switch and an eve door sensor on thread/matter and they all are working great. Something was wonkey in apple. Maybe when the old architecture got updated from apple. I officially deleted my old home yesterday. Took some time to migrate Hue and Lutron and all my other stuff, but that was my fix.
