White Switch Stops Working Daily

I’ve had my White switch working fine since it was delivered from the pre-order. It replaced a Caseta switch and the wiring is sound. Only recently have I started having issues, requiring regular resets. The switch will go offline in all platforms and the physical switch won’t control the light. I pull the tab and the switch resets and works again… but then within a day it needs to be done again. I have searched the community to see if this has occurred before, but haven’t found anything. Could the switch have gone bad or maybe requires a firmware update? I’m on 1.0.5.

Does your white series have a neutral wire? And if it does, what is the load? Is it a few low watt LED bulbs? When the white series switch is offline in your smart homes, how does the switch act locally while you physically in front of it? Thanks! What FW is it on? 1.0.5 is the latest.

Yes it has a neutral. Not sure of the load. The bulbs are led candle bulbs. When it’s offline the physical switch does not work and requires the tab to be pulled to reset.

I’m in 1.0.5.

I would factory reset it just to make sure that won’t resolve it. But ordinarily, regardless of whether or not the switch is online, the paddle should work properly. If you factory reset it and the switch does not work with paddle presses when it is offline, then I would RMA it.

Thanks for your Coletti, couple more questions please, how many led candle bulbs does the light fixture have? If it’s just a few then the load isn’t large enough and I’d wire 1or 2 of these bypasses (sold by Inovelli as well) at the load side (light fixture).

I am asking these questions b/c I had the same issues with one of my white series, it was fine until it went to the newer 1.0.5 FW, it had a neutral but only 3 small led candle bulbs so I wired two of these bypasses in at the light fixture ceiling box. What used to happen is my switch would kind of go bonkers, and there LED bar would flash and light switch would restart and the switch went offline in the Smart Home.

AEOTEC BYPASS

My situation sounds similar. The light has 5 small led candle bulbs and it was not a problem until recently. I did not have this with the switch I used before (caseta), so I don’t feel that doing this kind of workaround should be necessary. I will investigate your method.

Yes, absolutely, let others chime in, fyi, this is where I discovered my solution. And with the bypasses installed now, the light bulbs are actually brighter now as a bonus!

By chance, I too had a Lutron Caseta switch before this one in the gang box as well.

One other ‘bonus’ since installing the bypasses, when I had the Lutron Caseta switch & this white series dimmer switch I had to ‘trim’ the low level of the light in the Lutron app & with the local parameters controls cause it would flicker too much at very low levels but now with the bypasses installed I can set the trim light level real low again and it doesn’t flicker at all.

I’m having this same situation. I have 4 Inovelli white series, some are connected to single bulb, some to multiple bulbs, etc. All of mine are single pole, and all have a neutral wire.

All of them previously worked fairly well before this week, but they seem to go “unknown” once every couple of days. (it’s like a rotating ferris wheel, one per day effectively)

A few notes:

  1. 1.05 software
  2. Installed into Google Home first, but also into Home Assistant if that’s helpful
  3. I have not explicitly programmed in Google Home or HAOS any of the single paddle presses, they are just in a default state of “up = on, down = off”, however, when this happens, even manual presses of the switch don’t work until I pull the air gap. I haven’t tried factory resetting just yet, but there’s no way all 4 switches are faulty.
  4. Other thread devices on my network are working fine, but I did have a similar problem with Nanoleaf bulbs a while back (not on these Inovelli switches), but firmware update seemed to have solved that.

I feel like there has to be something recent that has changed on this, if I’m not the only one. It’s almost like if it ever loses thread connection, it never retries again and just bricks itself until you pull the air gap.

I’m fairly new to Home Assistant, but if there is any log or anything that I can do to help troubleshoot, I’m all ears.

this is what i would expect.

I have the exact same setup as @briengerber . I added the innovelli white switch to google first via Matter and then added into Home Assistant. The switch is always available via Google Home but goes unavailable in Home assistant. The first few days it seemed to work ok, but then I noticed it dropped off and would reconnect in HA. After looking into other posts I realized that I did not have IPV6 enabled on my unifi network so I enabled that last night but there hasn’t been any changes to the availability. I have some further troubleshooting to try this weekend when I have time and will update if something fixes the problem.
