Will the smart dimmer control the canopy module?

I have the white fan canopy control, works great.
Can anyone confirm that I can use the white smart dimmer to control the canopy - fan and light - even if the switch isn’t wired to directly feed power to the canopy? I assume yes, but just want confirmation.

ty!

Yes. The two can be powered independently. If you do feed power from the switch, feed from the Line terminal, not the Load terminal.

With the white, you are presently limited to control via automations. As hubs don’t support binding yet. (If you’re on HA, there is reportedly a script that sort of works to bind.)

Yes this will work. The switch and canopy module can only communicate over the thread network, so the wire doesn’t come into play.

Ideally, they would communicate via a direct matter binding, bypassing the controller completely and maintaining connectivity even when the controller is down. That feature has not yet been released on any of the ecosystems, but it sounds like Home Assistant is close. I made the aforementioned script for Home Assistant specifically to bind the dimmer switch to the fan/light canopy module, and it’s been rock-solid for me for months. It also works with other brands but to varying degrees with complex setups.

Thank you both, but I’m still uncertain. I want to use the same switch to control the canopy module, both the light and the fan.

e.g. using the labels here ( White Series Dimmer (2-1) Switch • Manual | Inovelli Help Center )

Can I use button ‘C’ to toggle the light and the paddle to control the fan speed?

edit: And if possible, can it be done in homekit or do I need to create custom bindings in home automation?
