Will the White Series Smart Fan & Light Canopy Module and Switch work without a Hub?

I have an old pull-chain ceiling fan, which currently has only one switch to control the light.
The pull chain controls the fan on/off and speed.

My goal is to be able to control both the light and speed separately, with a new switch on the wall.

I know i can use a remote control and a receiver, but I also want a more future-proof solution that will allow me to integrate with a smart hub in the future.

So my question is, do the smart fan & light canopy and switch work without a hub?

Unfortunately, you’re going to need a hub at least initially.

The switch and canopy module interact in two ways. The first is through automations that require a smart hub.

The second is through a technique called binding. That requires a hub initially but then the binding works independently without the hub. It’s not really meant to be a hubless feature. It’s more for an arguably faster response time and for those that worry about their hub crashing.

Also, binding is well established for Zigbee (Blue series). I don’t use the White series, but my understanding is that binding the White series can be problematic due to a lack of hub support in some cases.
