Blue Canopy module with Panasonic WhisperSense ECM DC bathroom exhaust fan?

Hi

I have WhisperSense DC bathroom exhaust fans with LED lighting. These fans have three separate load connectors for :

  • Smart motion/humidity sensor ECM motor exhaust fan, generally designed to be always powered
  • A dimmable main LED light
  • A non-dimmable (allegedly) LED nightlight

I wired the main LED light to a blue smart dimmer. I would like to wire the nightlight and the fan itself to a blue canopy module purely for on/off control. I understand that the dimmer function will not work and I can’t directly pair it to a dimmer switch. I will use home assistant to set on/off schedules.

Is it ok to wire the ECM DC fan to the fan load terminal of the canopy module, as long as I always keep it set to 0% or 100%?

Thanks in advance

The canopy module is designed to work with AC fan motors, not DC fan motors.

I understand it can’t vary the speed of the fan. But what happens if the fan, which accepts AC input, is just powered at 100% or 0% from the module? What will go wrong?

We are not going to discuss what can happen when you intentionally use an Inovelli product with an inductive load for which it is not designed, rated for, or intended to be used with.

Suffice it to say that there have been a couple of occurrences of similar misuses, which resulted in catastrophic events and ultimately led to Inovelli adding overheat protection to certain devices.
