Blue Series 2-1 Signal / Routing / Performance Issue Troubleshooting Thread

We’ve all been there, at least the switch doesn’t nuke itself  when this happens.

Hey all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have manually gone through all the forms and updated the internal sheet for replacements. I will send out a confirmation email to everyone more than likely early next week. Thank you so much to everyone who submitted the form and followed the directions, it made things semi easy for me haha.

I have also confirmed with the manufacturer that the only IEEE’s affected are the ones mentioned in the email (94:34:69:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and 38:5B:44:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx).

So, if you are experiencing network or any performance issues with IEEE’s outside of that range, my advice would be to submit a ticket so we can swap these out after some troubleshooting.

Also just wanted to say sorry if I was MIA the past few days – the manual input and verification process was pretty overwhelming so I just put some headphones on and cranked them all out (but the side effect being I didn’t get in the forums).

Thanks for everyone’s patience and if I missed any questions above, please let me know!

On the plus side, my switch I swapped in works the same as the non-smart switch I had before, so it’s not really any loss but a bit of time–not a big deal!

Good luck working through everything–I’m still looking forward to the switch when all the issues are sorted out!

I just submitted my form this evening, 11/11 10pm EST.

Same here.

No one has… yet.

Submitted as well - with some unbelievable luck, I’m batting 0.000 on 50 switches (every single switch I received was bad) - glad I caught this before doing the whole home install

If you have a decent mesh they still work…

It really depends, I have several which are working ok, but there are a few that are pretty unreliable despite being a few feet at most away from other routers which are working fine

I had several that flat out wouldn’t even pair with ZHA, 20ft from the controller. That’s what nudged me to go review that email to see if that could be the case.

I think it varies. I had three that worked like a charm, and my fourth was a dud. I then checked my entire batch, and voila they were all on the list.

I’m not going to install 50 switches twice, assuming the supplier is replacing them all for free anyways.

Not exactly. They have a useable range of about 15 feet, IME. You can have a great mesh in the house and then install one of these in the garage, and, you see where I’m going. The good news is, I’ve been able to get both of mine working much better by removing the resistor and adding a blob of solder between the two pads. I don’t think range is as good as OE spec, but it works.

@Eric_Inovelli, I just submitted my form as well for 5 of my 10 switches. Also, as a heads up, I never received the latest email in regard to the signal issues.

@Eric_Inovelli Is it known whether the replacement switches will have the MG21 or MG24 chip? And if not would it be possible to have an option for those of us that may not need them right away to choose to hold off replacements for when the MG24 is available?

I would certainly be happy to wait for the revised chip for my 3 as well–although I understand if it makes more sense to deal with existing stock of the original chip, too.

What’s the difference between the 2 chips?

About 3
The MG24 is supposed to support OTA update to matter. The MG21 will require flashing via a header to update to matter.

Any idea when the replacement confirmation emails are going to be sent?

For anyone not wanting to keep and try to fix their defective switches, I would be happy to pay for shipping to me, if that’s allowed. I’d like to keep these out of the landfill! @grooves12

I’m looking at getting these to help with the repair:

Does anyone have experience with these, or can recommend a good microscope? I’m happy to use this as an opportunity to pick up some new tools!

Disclaimer: My personal option follows…

While it’s a creative solution I think that’s not exactly ethical or kind to the spirit of things. Typically, when products are replaced the objective is to keep the replaced product out of the market as not to dilute the market. If you have “demand” for the product Inovelli would like to sell you product. They also do not want you putting them back on the market after a repair and risk the brand experience if those that buy those switches have issues with them.

My two cents, Inovelli should require these be returned for exchange. There will be a glut of defective devices on the market that will ruin Inovelli’s reputation, exhaust their limited staff and drag Inovelli down.
