My outdoor flood lights started just coming on at random times and then I cut them off and they go off but then come back on at random times (which could be 10 minutes or 2 days later) for no rhyme or reason. Sometimes when they randomly cut on you can go to the switch and cut them back off but they just instantly come back on like this video I took shows: https://photos.app.goo.gl/cppDNyMjsHqYCW5T6
I cut power to the switch using the airgap and repower the switch and they may work fine for 2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks but then go right back to doing weird stuff again. I had crestron smart dimmers in these exact same locations for the last 10 years just fine with no problems. The switches are not resetting, all loads are led lights and load wattage is within limits, there are no automations attached to the switches, smart bulb mode is not on, switches are set to on/off mode, all switches detect a neutral, wiring has been triple checked, all switches have neutrals, local control is disabled, I’m still having the issue and cannot figure it out. Help!
If the switches are acting weirdly in that specific location, and happen with “new” switches swapped in, this would leave me to believe there is an issue with the wiring in some way… whether the switches are incorrectly wired, or somehow the circuit is being backfed, there has to be something with that specific circuit.
It would likely help if you were able to remove the switches, possibly provide an image of the wiring in the box and how you have the switches connected (if for no other reason to absolutely rule this out), and have you grab a multimeter and perform some tests on the wiring.
I don’t have Alexa tied to Home Assistant and yes I agree it seems like it has to be something with that circuit.
It’s a 4 way lighting setup as well. I’m using Inovelli auxiliary switches in the traveler locations and the actual smart switch in the load/line box in my kitchen.
I’ve racked my brain trying to figure out where the weirdness is originating and I keep coming back to the idea that it must be a neutral issue where I’m somehow getting feedback on a neutral wire that is triggering it. My house has 6 electrical panels so it makes me think somehow that a neutral in one switch location of the 4-way is tied to one panel and a neutral in another switch location of the 4-way is tied to another panel and maybe that is part of it?
That’s not possible if you’ve wired correctly. If you follow the Inovelli diagram for a neutral configuration, you are sending the neutral from the Line box to the Aux boxes over one of the 3-wire conductors. So the neutral that is landed on each Aux switch is, if wired properly, the neutral from the Line box.
So it sounds like this is occurring with more than one switch and both switches worked ok originally? If they worked ok originally, I’d discount a wiring error. But if they’ve never worked properly, I’d double-check the wiring as a first step.
If the wiring is ok, can you temporarily remove the binding and test just using the wired load? I’m wondering if something is wonky with the binding.
