Expose Current Sensor

Would it be possible to expose current readings directly?

It makes sense that non-neutral installations can’t produce valid power/energy readings, as there is no voltage reference. But presumably the current sensor still works

Exposing current readings would allow external energy trackers to make estimates of power/energy given their own voltage data, and would allow for maintenance/error detection by showing when a bulb is busted or malfunctioning (assuming some current path still exists so the switch is online)

I’m most interested in this for non-neutral installs on the VZW31-SN, but I suspect it would be more or less the same on all your energy-sensing devices with or without a neutral

Not possible with the VZM31 at least. See Blue VZM31-SN switches aren't showing Voltage or Current in HA - #2 by rohan

How can it measure power without first measuring voltage and current?

That’s a question for the manufacturer. But that’s the answer I got from @EricM_Inovelli who checked with the manufacturer when I wanted the same feature exposed.

My best guess is that it does measure it internally but has no way to expose it to the Zigbee chip.

@rohan is correct, the power measurement chip does not provide the voltage and current on the VZM31.
