Hardware for white series

I bought a bunch of White series VTM31-SN switches for my new home. What is the recommended hardware to get these to connect to home assistant running on an older Mac mini? I had a Sonoff dongle max here that I’ve spent nearly a day trying but I get stuck on the connecting to device screen in HA app and eventually unable to connect to device. I’ve tried a lot of different combinations of settings but so far no luck. Should this dongle be all I need and I still got something set wrong somewhere? Or should I go looking for a different thread border router?

We have a second gen Apple TV 4k we use as our thread boarder router and have had good luck with that. I also first paired the switches with Apple Home and then paired them with Home Assistant after that. I wouldn’t think the device running Home Assistant would matter as long as it’s on the same network as the thread boarder router, but others may know better than me.

If you don’t have the Apple TV with thread, the new Home Assistant ZBT-2 works well with the Home Assistant Openthread border router.

Ok. Thanks for the input. I have an ancient A1378 Apple TV here that I tried but I’m wondering if its to old. I’ll just get a zbt-2 and see if I have any better luck.

That Apple TV is too old. It predates Thread.
