Help with 5 way wiring with 7 light fixtures no neutral

Sorry, but that’s not correct. The 2-wire Romex is not coming from the breaker, it’s coming from the light in what is known as a switch loop. My earlier post explained how this works.

If that Romex really came from the panel, then when you touched the black and white together, it would have caused a short and blown the breaker. But as you observed, that didn’t happen. Instead the light turned on. That is because the hot comes from the light (without the neutral, which remains at the light) and returns to the light switched over the black.

If you are uncertain regarding all of this, then it’s probably best for you to have an electrician assist you.

OK I wired the inovelli in a 2-way non-neutral and test. That worked. Then I wire nutted the white wire of the 3 wire romex and the black wire of the 3 wire romex to the line with the white wire. is this correct?

Now at the first four way there is only red and white wires used. how to I wire these to the GE aux switch?

How do I wire this? Do both red wire connect to the traveler and both white wires to the neutral?

For the Inovelli, yes. You are using two of the 3 conductors on the 3-wire to go to the downstream Aux switches. BLACK of the 3-wire to the Line on the Inovelli and RED of the 3-wire to the Traveler on the Inovelli. Cap off the WHITE, as you have.

You are only using the BLACK and the RED. You’ll have to remove the wire nut for the BLACKS to attach to the Auxs. You can bundle the whites together and just use one wire nut. There is nothing on them . . just covering the bare conductors for safety.

For each Aux, RED to Traveler and BLACK to Neutral. I know the BLACK is hot and you’re wiring to a neutral terminal, but that is what is required for the Aux when mated with a non-neutral configured switch. Cap off the WHITES.

RED to traveler, BLACKS to Neutral. Use both holes for the middle Auxs.

Don’t forget to reprogram the switch for a 3-way with Aux:

### Multi-Way (3-Way) + Aux Switch Mode

To have your White Series 2-1 Switch work with an Auxiliary (Add-On) switch in a multi-way (3-Way) setting, hold down on the top part of the paddle (on) while simultaneously tapping the configuration button five (5) times (do not let go of the paddle when finished tapping the config button). Wait for the LED Bar to flash solid white (and then let go of the paddle) indicating the switch has enabled 3-Way + Aux Switch Mode.

I have everything wired up correctly now the aux switches do not work. When you toggle them nothing happens. I put the inovelli in 3 way mode and aux mode. I can turn the lights on and off with my phone and at the inovelli. Any idea why the aux switches do not work?

Please post pics of the Inovelli so I can see the connections to the switch and into the box.

Post pics of the 3 Auxs so I can see the conductors wired to the Aux.

Both 4 ways are wired the same way. I double checked connections and there are no loose wires.

From what I can see, the wiring looks correct. It’s a little tough to see in the primary box, but since it works fine as a 2-way, I’m reasonably confident it’s correct.

Have you added to a hub? If so, I would double-check there to ensure you’re in the proper 3-way mode.

I’m also wondering about the Aux switches you are using. It looks like they are ZW2003. There have been a number of model number changes so I’m not absolutely sure on this. I took a quick look and it looks like the ZW2003 is an add-on for the GE Embrighten switch. I think the Zwave add-on is ZW2004.

Hopefully someone that has used GE/Jasco Auxs can comment here, as I can’t say for sure that the ones you are using are or are not compatible. I know the models I quoted above are the ones I believe Inovelli recommends (ZW2002 / GE 45610 - ZW2004 / GE 12723), but ZW2003 isn’t one of them.

@Lance_Inovelli Can you please post a list of the GE/Jasco Aux switches that are compatible? Is the ZW2003 one of them?

@Lance_Inovelli ZW2002 / GE 45610 - ZW2004 / GE 12723) are also z wave aux switches as is the (ZW2003). How could they work with a white series matter dimmer switch? Do I have any options for aux switches to use since Inovelli does not have any aux switches available right now. I do not want to have to go back and install my manual switches.

I am double checking, the specs are all the same so it should work. I will post back when I get more info. I have reached out to our engineer.

@ecollins our engineer stated that any of the ge/jasco aux switches should work.

How do you make it work? where are instructions to tell you how to configure and make the aux switches work?

Same as I quoted above.

Does your hub show the switch setting as a 3-way w/Aux, if it’s possible to query that parameter?

I have a hubitat hub and do not have the drivers to add the switch. The only other hub I have is my apple ipodmin for my homekit. I held the up paddle and press the configure button 5 times get a flashing white led and release the up paddle. the aux switches still do not work.

I found driver code for the white series dimmer for hubitat. When I look at the setting in hubitat it is configured for dimmer+aux. So why do the ge switches not turn the light on and off

I changed it’s configuration from Dimmer+AUX to On/Off+AUX and they work.

But does your Inovelli dim now, or just switch between full power on and off?

Also, do the Aux switches dim, or just turn the lights on/off?

I don’t have whites so the driver may be a bit different, but are you saying you set the Switch Mode P258 to On/off and the Aux switch type P22 to 3-way Aux?

Does not dim it only turns on and off.

Also, do the Aux switches dim, or just turn the lights on/off?

Aux are just on and off to.

This is the url to the driver I used for my hubitat hub c-8 with latest firmware.

So if you set it back to dimmer w/ Aux do the Auxs work or does that break them?

I set the preference back to dimmer+aux and the inovetti white would dim the lights. so would the aux switches. But when you would turn the aux switch to off you would have to hold the toggle switch down and the lights will dim and flicker till they turn off. When you turn back on with the aux switch the light turns on at about 50% then you have to hold the toggle up untill the light is 100%. So I just switched it back to on/off+aux and they turn off and on when you flip the toggle. I wish I was able to see all the setting for the inovelli and change them to test further.
