Inovelli White Fan Module with a Dimmer Switch

How is the best way to set up fan that is using a smart dimmer switch with no light kit?
Also I have several fans with the light kit installed so I’m looking for a little help on these as well

  • Should I Pair the switch first and then Canopy or vice versa.
  • After Pairing the switch and the fan module. What settings do I change to control the Slow, Medium and Fast setting on the fan
  • After pairing both how do I control the light separately from the fan.
  • There are no smart bulbs in the light kit.

Regarding the fan without the light kit. I was able to get both connected and into home assistant but when I hit the up toggle I only got the highest fan setting and the down toggle turned it off. Then I started messing with the settings and the fan become disconnected from Home Assistant and I had to re-pair it. Once it was re-paired the fan would only turn on and off but this time only on the lowest setting. I’m obviously doing something wrong here.

The dimmer is not rated for fan loads. Swap it out for a fan switch.

Are you using a canopy with that one too even though there is no light? It’s not clear what the “both” is.

Are you sure this is accurate? I was told by Inovelli that I could definitely use the Dimmer switches on my fans. I have 5 fans 1 has no light kit, the other 4 have light kits.

If you are using a fan canopy module, then the canopy module is the device physically connected go the fan. In that case, you would be binding the dimmer to the canopy module to control the fan and light (or using automations). So for those installations with the canopy module, the dimmer is fine because it has no load physically connected to it.

The other fan, however, does not have a light kit, so in most circumstances, you wouldn’t use a canopy module. That’s why I asked if you were. If you are using a canopy module for this fan, then it’s the same as for the fans with the lights. The dimmer is okay because it will have no load physically connected to it.

On the other hand, if the fan without the light is physically wired to the fan, then you need to use a fan switch, not a dimmer. The dimmer is not rated for motor loads.

Real sure.

If Inovelli told you that you can use a dimmer directly wired to a fan, they misunderstood you. @Kaleb_Inovelli can verify.
