I can confirm as well that the beta firmware works without issues and it has resolved the flickering I had on 10+ switches
Anyone have any luck flashing this FW through Hubitat?
I don’t believe Hubitat has a system that allows for custom firmware updates. Inovelli would have to have Hubitat push the update, which would push it to all users as a production release.
Hubitat was sent 3.01. @Lance_Inovelli does 3.01 incorporate the fix in the beta version discussed here?
While Hubitat doesn’t have a custom firmware update method, the platform also doesn’t push zigbee firmware updates. There is an “Update Firmware” button on every device page that must be pressed to initiate the process.
That’d how Eric described it to me. I’ve never used Hubitat. But that was his concern with sending betas over there.
@Bry all 3.x+ should have the fix.
Where did you get the beta? I would love to fix the flicker. I have a bunch of switches that I’d like to swap over to a newer smart switch, but it won’t be Inovelli unless I can get this resolved.
I’m not sure if anyone from Inovelli is still monitoring this thread, but if someone from the community that has a working firmware that fixes the flicker can post somewhere then I’d appreciate it. I highly doubt that any of the bugs in the beta are worse than the flicker in the “production” release. Especially if it’s truly close to being released.
Hi @kevin_wilcox do you mind sharing the URL for the v3.04 firmware for HA?
@EricM_Inovelli has requested people who have the beta to not distribute the Url directly and to direct people to PM him instead so he can control the distribution of the beta.
Yep, true. But I gotta imagine he’s getting close to general release of one of the 3.0x flavors – the Betas seem to be going well!
I’m going to give an update to those still struggling with this problem. I DM’d @EricM_Inovelli and he was kind enough to share the firmware update instructions with me. I was able to get it installed to a couple of the switches and the problem seems to be fixed.
For anyone else still needing help with this, Eric M said to DM him and ask for the instructions. I know I’m a complainer, but I do appreciate the fact they have a fix for this.
It will me a much more of Merry Christmas in my house this year!
I DM’d @EricM_Inovelli as instructed. I was rather quickly rewarded with the required instructions.
I updated all 5 of my Blue 2-in-1’s.
3 of them control canopy modules and did not exhibit the flickering issue. All I can say for these 3 is the update seems to have caused them no harm.
The other 2 were directly controlling loads, and they were flickering. After the update they no longer flicker.
SUCCESS
Do we have an ETA for the production release of the new firmware that addresses the fix?
Small anecdotal sample, but I installed the latest beta on two of my switches. One previously flickered at lower brightness, the other would consistently flicker when ramping up and intermittently when on. The low brightness flicker and turn on flicker haven’t appeared at all in the first hour of use. Really happy with this update so far and will roll it out to one or two more switches tonight. I previously thought it was the bulbs and was dreading having to replace the LED inserts.
I’ve installed the update on all of my switches, and unfortunately it made flickers way worse on my non-neutral switches. Some of them now need to have their load limited to not flicker very quickly, but still flicker here and there.
It doesn’t look like the update is quite ready based on what I’ve been observing.
FW 3.04 is available on Hubitat via the drivers firmware update for anyone that has not noticed.
I’ve had a VZM32-SN installed on the exact same lights as the problematic VZM31-SN for around 10 days now, and the VZM32-SN is perfectly fine - it has none of the flickering symptoms of the VZM31-SN.
I know this was a thread about Blue 2-1, but does this same problem (and ideally same fix) apply also to the Red 2-1, @EricM_Inovelli ? I’ve had the same symptoms with my house full of those dimmers and am hoping that now that it appears that you’ve found a fix (congrats!) on that, we might soon see attention shift to addressing the same on the Red 2-1. I’m happy to beta test as soon as something is ready!
The Red series has the same adjustments made to it (in fw 2.0 I think), but tbh, there have been very few reports coming from red users about bulb performance. I’ll PM you about that firmware.
I’m trying to roll this to a few more switches and some just will not take on the update. Anyone have this trouble with Z2M trying to upgrade from 2.18? I’ve tried pulling the airgap for a minute and doing a factory reset but one switch has probably done the update sequence 5 times and still says 2.18 in the cluster swID (not just on the device page).
