mmWave Stay Life vs Detection Timeout (red zwave)

I’ve seen the post that gets linked often ( Zigbee Motion Switch • Project Linus • Bug & Enhancement Thread - #130 by MasterDevwi ) but I’m not sure I’m understanding it right. I think these mean:

  • Stay Life (param 108): If the switch senses micro-movements in an area, and that thing suddenly stops moving, how long should the switch report “Presence Detected”?
  • Detection Timeout (param 114): If the switch sees large movement that goes out of detection range, like if a person walks out of the room, how long should the switch report “Presence Detected”?

To test, I’ve set Stay Life to 1 ( 0.05 seconds) and param Detection Timeout to 5 (5 seconds) . Walking in and out of the room works great: the lights turn on right away and turn off in about 5 seconds after I walk out of the room. Things get weird when I change Stay Life to 10 (0.5 seconds). Now the lights turn off after about 15 seconds. I’ve done at least 50 tests with Stay Life at 1 and 10 and am getting consistent results. I can toggle the setting back and forth and get lights turning off in 5 and 15 seconds. What is going on here?

Sensitivity is High and Target Speed is Fast.

I’ve found the time to do more testing. I’m convinced that param 108 on the Red series is in seconds. All tests were repeated 6 times and and results averaged. Param 114 was kept at 5 throughout.

Param 108 Time (sec) Computed Param 108
1 5.97 0.97
2 6.88 1.88
3 8.22 3.22
4 9.25 4.25
5 10.35 5.35
6 11.25 6.25
7 12.72 7.72
8 13.58 8.58
9 14.23 9.23
10 14.55 9.55

Can anyone from inovelli comment on this? would like some more detail on mmWave Stay Life.

Take a look at this post. Does it have what you’re looking for?

That’s the exact post I linked to in my original thread. But my testing doesn’t match up to that explanation.
“Stay life determines how long to wait if the sensor loses you but you didn’t walk out of the room (i.e. you were sitting or laying too still)”

I increased stay life and walked out of the room, and the lights stayed on for “stay life” extra seconds. Both parameters seem to do the same thing.
