New Environment Requirements

Im trying to identify all of the requirements for a new environment. My goal is to have many of the features offer by the White Series but more specifically I want to be able to operate outdoor lighting based on a rotating daily schedule. We don’t currently have any hubs or controllers but we are an all-Apple household.

Out home was required about 20 years ago and I believe there is a neutral wire. One of the smart dimmers in use needs to support a three way environment.

Where do I start and what are all of the components I need?

Thanks in advance!

You say you have an all apple household. Do you have HomePods or Apple TVs?

I do not but could purchase the Apple TV if needed. I don’t really want the HomePod or any listening device in my home, Apple or any other brand.

OK… Some idea of the number of switches, the distribution in the house (all in one corner, spread across the house etc), its square footage.

For the outside lights do they need to be dimmable or just on/off. Some idea of the total wattage per switch controlling outside lights.

How complex are the outside light timing routines?

Lastly are you a techno geek or you have little wish to tinker etc?

You need an AppleTV or HomePod of some kind for you access your HomeKit/Matter devices remotely. Recommend AppleTV with Ethernet port (most reliable).

What are you talking about? The white is a thread switch, it doesn’t use Wi-Fi and haa no dependency on 2.4ghz or 5ghz Wi-Fi. Thread does overlap with the 2.4ghz radio space of Wi-Fi but that’s not the same thing. Better Wi-Fi access points won’t help in that situation.

You need a thread border router (of which a homepod or apple TV is one). There’s no way to use a white series switch without one.
