Question about the Fan Canopy module (VZM36)

First, because it appears that the fan portion of the Fan Canopy module can support sending a variable level to the fan to set the speed, I have a question…

With a VZM31-SN Dimmer bound to the Fan Canopy module (VZM36), I can set the levels for Low, Medium, and High when tapping the configuration/favorites button and have the fan set to those levels… but when controlling the module directly via my smart home platform, the Low, Medium, and High levels are all at preset levels…

If I only control the Fan Canopy module through the switch, that’s fine, but if I use my smart home platform to turn it on High, I get 100% speed and not the High speed I set in the switch. And while I could, I don’t want to limit the operating range of the fan speed by messing with MinimumLevel 2 and MaximumLevel 2 parameters.

Is it possible to adjust the presets on the Canopy Module? Or is this something that would require a change to the firmware to accomplish?

If a change would need to be made, here is what I’d like to see ideally…

First, leaving the firmware settings alone in the switches, having the ability to set a high, medium, and low level per switch is fine and it’s no issue that it is separate from the canopy module.

In my smart home platform of choice, I’d like to see more options than just Off, Low, Medium, and High, with the ability to change to “Smart” mode, but at an absolute minimum, I’d like the ability to at least set the levels for Low, Medium, and High when accessed this way.

Ideally, I’d like to have direct control over the speed like I do with lights… with a percentage slider. Optionally, the option to set up to 6 presets would be nice, as that would provide me with enough granularity and allow for a more customizable “Smart” mode.

How I envision this working… Up to 6 presets, 3 of them set by default with basic low, medium, and high levels, with the remaining 3 disabled/hidden in the user interface. The ability to label a certain speed as low, medium, or high would be great for standardized voice control, as well as being able to request a specific speed setting or percentage. If I only set 4 speeds, then 4 speeds will be available to select from, or request via voice. If I label speed 2 as low, then if I ask Alexa (or whatever) to set the fan to low, it will set it to speed 2, and the same with medium and high.

I have no idea how feasible this would be, either allowing more than 3 speeds, also labeling some of them low, medium, and high, but the basic request is to have finer control through my smart home platform of choice and not be limited to uncustomizable preset levels everywhere other than through the switch parameters when using the config/favorites button.

Unfortunately, the fan canopy module is physically not capable of more than 3 speeds.

Are we only talking about 3 possible speeds or the 3 specific speeds it currently has with their preset levels?

I’d still be fine if I could set it by percentage instead of relying on the presets, or modifying the presets at a minimum.

The 3 specific speeds that it has. They are not configurable.

The low and medium speeds on the Inovelli fan module are regulated by capacitors built into the module itself. These capacitors limit the output power to create the distinct speed levels, which is why only three fixed speeds are possible — the capacitors in the module’s construction can only produce those specific discrete power levels, rather than a continuous range of speeds.

Well, that’s… disappointing… Is the Fan switch the same way? Obviously not when using it with the canopy module, but when connected directly to a fan?

Yes, the fan switch is setup in the same way. It has 3 possible speeds. There have been other posts on the matter, and it has been explained in those that to have more than 3 speeds requires more hardware which would require a larger switch casing.

Well, shucks …

Thanks for taking the time to clarify that for me
