Question on White Series. I have fan with a light and a DC motor

I actually have 2 fans with lights & DC motor. Will this White Series work with that fan and allow me to control both fan & light? It’s ok if the switch itself only controls the light and I can control fan on/off/speed with HomeKit.

A couple of questions:

  1. Where does your line originate? At the switch box or the fan box?

  2. Do you have a 2-wire or a 3-wire between the fan and the switch box? (Exclusive of the ground)

What is the manufacturer and model of the fans? I have 3 Homekit compatible Hunter Fans and I use automations (Home Assistant in my case) to link a Inovelli switch to both the Light and Fan portion of the fans. Home Assistant is setup to push the light and fan to Homekit so they are controllable in Apple Home. The Inovelli switch is not switching the power at all, it’s just used as a controller.

The Inovelli fan switches and canopy modules only work with AC motor fans, so they won’t directly control DC motor fans. If your fan light is on a separate switch, you could use a White Series dimmer for the light. For the fan itself, you could use the new White Series On/Off switch just to control power to the fan (essentially acting like a master cutoff).

If your fan is already integrated into your smart home, you could also wire a White Series switch without a load and put it in Smart Bulb Mode. That way the switch won’t cut power but can act as a scene controller, letting you customize taps/holds/multi-taps to control the fan speed or light however you want through automations.

If the fan isn’t yet in your smart home, though, you’ll need another method (controller, bridge, etc.) to bring it in before the switch can be used this way.

Edit: I believe the new on off switches have Smart Bulb mode too. I should be getting mine soon ish.

That is the answer I was looking for. I have two fans with DC and i would like to add them to my smart home to control on/off and speed. But there is no smart switch that can control DC fans. I was thinking since DC has more speed control it would be an improvement, but it seems like it’s gone backwards.
