Software Recommendation for VZM32-SN mmWave Sensor Settings

Hi all, brand new Inovelli customer here, and I’m really impressed with the build and functionality of my first VZM32-SN. It’s currently in a very basic On/Off, SmartBulb configuration for a Sengled E11-N1EAWA, using Amazon Echo as hub.

I am considering a new platform to replace (but integrate with) Echo so that I can do Zigbee bindings with Sengled. I also want a simpler way to adjust the mmWave sensor parameters. My short list is Hubitat or Home Assistant.

Can anyone make a recommendation as to which platform provides the best software for Inovelli parameter configuration?

I’m biased since I’m one of the maintainers for Inovelli’s converter for Z2M, but I would say Home Assistant with Z2M is probably the best integrated hub to use today.

It’s the only platform that currently supports configuring and using multiple different detection zones (well in the next release Feb 1st it will) and there is tools built that allow for visualizing the zones and realtime mmwave target tracking.

Thanks for the advice. Multiple zones and visualization are both of interest.

I had been leaning to HA anyway, then thought that maybe I should give Hubitat’s reported simplicity and ease of use a try (for once in my life!).

Personally, i would recommend Home Assistant and Z2M for zigbee. Home Assistant has become a lot more user friendly to the point were a standard user shouldn’t need to do anything with config files anymore. You will have to setup an mqtt broker for Zigbee2Mqtt but once that is setup support with Z2M seems to be the best overall. Z2M is also so much more configurable and flexible then ZHA in home assistant.

Thanks. That’s two strong votes for HA. I have plenty of available RPi’s to run it on, just need to get a coordinator (looking at the SLZB-06 POE based on recommendations seen here and elsewhere).

I’ll be the contrarian here. Have been a Hubitat user for a few years now and love it’s ease of use and robustness.

I’ve been using the mmWave switches on it for a few days now and really happy with how they work. I will also want to bind two of the switches each with it’s own Sengled bulb. Not sure yet how to do that though… Haven’t had a chance to research it yet but intend to in the coming days, time permitting.

What is the built in visualization tool? I’m using HA and Z2M and have been manually setting up a dozen switches by assigning an LED to turn on with occupancy through HA automation and then setting MmWaveHoldTime to 0

This is one option that was built. I’m working on something similar that’s integrated into Z2M but it’s still in the ideation phase. I’m working with the Z2M frontend folks to make sure that we come up with something that’s generic enough to use for other devices as well.

Thanks everyone for interesting and helpful feedback. I haven’t changed anything yet, but will take all into consideration when I do.

Wow! These visualizations tools are fantastic!!! Thank you!

@nickduvall921 made those ones, not me. Happy to tag him to pass along the thanks though.
