Stripped terminal screws Blue 2-in-1 mmWave

I stripped the neutral terminal screw on the side of the VZM31SN. Afterwards, I read this discussion and looked at these instructions for opening up the Blue 2-1. Can I safely use those instructions to access the screws on the VZM31SN? I found some a similar screw to replace the damaged one and started down that path, but became hesitant when I met with some resistance at the point of separating the blue rear shell from the rest of the switch. Any advice? Thanks for your help!

I’ve not done it myself, but it should be the same process. We’ve seen a few reports on the forum from other users who have done it successfully:

Just wanted to call out that I have installed several of these switches and a few of them have had weak black screws that I have stripped out such that they do not tighten anymore. This is with 14G wire and normal hand snugging of the screws. Luckily the switches are easy to disassemble so I was able to steal gold or black screws from the switches I am removing to take their places, but wanted to make others aware to be very careful.

Luckily the screws are a standard size and I have the tools required to swap them out so it wasn’t a big deal. I got them installed fine by supplying my own replacement screws. But good to keep in mind!

What I have been doing is moving the traveler screw when this happens as most of the time I don’t need a traveler.

Thanks @rohan for the encouragement! That did it for me. I got the blue shell off the back and replaced the stripped screw. It’s now installed and working great.
