Terrible day 1 experience with Red On/Off switches for bathroom fans

I bought a 5 pack of the Red On/Off switches for use with some exhaust fans.

The first one I installed was dead out of the box - no leds on it. (yes, cycled the air gap thing).

The second one worked… for about an hour. It was running the fan for an hour, I even had time to add it in to home assistant to start looking at the humidity graph to compare against another bathroom humidity sensor. But, then it died.

I pressed the switch to turn the fan off. The fan turned off. The LEDs went out. And now nothing will make it come back on.

Air gap toggle. Local control. Home Assistant control. Holding the buttons. Tapping them quickly. Nothing.

The power is still getting to the switch and then fan still works when I directly connect the line & load wires. But it is dead.

So, the first 2 of the 5 switches I’ve tried are duds. This doesn’t make sense.

I guess I’ll try a 3rd before I switch back to my old Insteon switch and fill out an RMA? If 3 don’t work then I’d just send all 5 back, no sense in even trying the other 2 since they came from the same batch.

The 3rd switch lasted all night long - it reported temperatures, the LEDs glowed, etc.

This morning it turned the normal old bathroom fan on successfully.

Then I turned the fan off - the fan shut off, as did the lights on the switch. Now the fan won’t turn back on and this switch appears as dead as the previous two.

I’ve not used the On/Off switch but it sounds to me it’s more likely the switches are being killed by the circuit rather than striking out and getting 3 faulty units back to back.

Do you have details on how they are wired? And the model of the exhaust fan acting as the load? What is the power of the fan and is it beyond the spec of the Red?
