Thread / Matter On/Off Switch | Project Vernacular

Any further update on this project? Seems to be a quiet thread for a couple months now.

12 posts were split to a new topic: Wiring 2-1 + Fan Canopy

Also hoping for an update. I placed a pre-order for the 2-in-1 with motion sensor, but I need about a dozen of the on/off to match those. Piling on the request above to ask if we’ll have pre-orders for the on/off.

@Eric_Inovelli @EricM_Inovelli any updates on this project? I am going to be ordering about 20 of them…

Ditto!

Same – would order a 10 pack today if I could get them quickly for my new build.

Waiting for these as well. Please make sure they can be set to display as fans/switches in HomeKit as well as lights. Seems to be an issue with some other light switches as per Reddit

It’s a Matter issue not a manufacturer issue

Yes and no. It can be defined as an outlet instead of a light and that would work.

It’s a switch made specifically for general loads (as opposed to the dimmer switch) so an outlet would be more semantically correct anyway.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay – the mmWave stuff has really taken a front seat on the updates from me and I apologize.

A quick update for you:

We were set to get beta samples a month or so ago and at the time, we were having the manufacturer of this switch start looking at an mmWave alternative as the manufacturer working on the mmWave switch (now former manufacturer) was just not working out.

One of the issues the On/Off switch was facing and they wanted to sort out was the temperature sensor and how it was reporting. Long story short, since this switch can control multiple different loads (fan, lights, low-voltage, etc), the temperature reporting was slightly off and they wanted to see if they could work on an algorithm to compensate.

This was sent to me last week:

“We have tested part of the temperature data in the constant temperature and humidity chamber, which is better than the previous test results. We need another week to complete the test and find the calculation method.”

I plan to follow up tonight to see where he’s at. I know he’s got a lot on his plate and was not anticipating handling the mmWave switch, so it kind of threw a wrench in his workload. I think we’re pretty much squared away with what he needs to do with mmWave and the Button Controller, so this switch is now his priority.

Once I hear back from him, I can give a better update with timelines and such. Everything else on the switch has been completed from the hardware side, they just want to get the algorithm for the temperature sensing figured out before sending off the beta units.

Awesome, thanks for the update. If you are looking for beta testers sign me up please!

Great news! I’ve been waiting for this switch for quite a while. I need a bunch to go with my Matter dimmers. Please consider adding me to the beta list.

I’ve been holding out on the Matter On/Off switch. Can I be added to the beta users?

Future project…GCFI outlets.

@Eric_Inovelli any updates on this project? Super excited to get these in my home. Also I would love to be added to beta testers if there is spots still open.

Hey @Eric_Inovelli ! In the same vein as the above posters, very happy to hear any updates on this on/off switch, as my plans for further upgrades to my smart home are awaiting its release (or using alternatives like Eve, which, IMO, are inferior). Also happy do any beta testing if that’s an option!

Fine if it’s delayed, but a response would be nice so we can plan accordingly.

The Zigbee switch is first and it just opened for preorders with an expected ship data of March 2025.
Set your loose expectations for June of next year as this switch should be right behind it if I remember the product development table correctly

This switch project sounds great, looking forward to ordering a few. Enjoying the dimmer and my fan switch shipped this week, so looking forward to getting that installed. With all these sensors in this switch will it handle extreme cold/heat <15 or >100? I have a garage project I’d love to use these in, but it does get cold in the winter here in OH. Testing would be great.

There’s only one sensor, temperature and humidity, of which only humidity will partially work due to issues with calibration from manufacturer.

Inovelli is located in Michigan, they know cold weather.

I’m in the Twin Cities area in MN – it’s -10 as I type this (and can of course get colder than that).

For years now out in my detached (unconditioned) garage, I have a Blue 2-1 and numerous other different smart devices, and none of them have ever flinched due to temps. Summer peaks can get over 110 in the garage, so these devices see wide swings over the course of a year.
