Toe kick heater fan control

I Have a toe kick heater in my kitchen. The fan is incredibly loud, so our electrician is going to install a switch for the fan so we can turn it off when we’re eating dinner.

I want to install a smart switch so that it’s easier to turn on/off (the switch will be inside a cabinet that won’t be easy to access) and to ensure we don’t forget to turn it back on.

Will the inovelli fan switch be compatible? What questions do I need to ask the electrician to confirm? Is there a specific setup that I would need (e.g. I read about putting the switch behind a relay to avoid the full load going through the switch…not sure if that’s relevant).

Thanks!

Scott

You want an on/off switch. A heater with a fan will have a mixed load, which isn’t compatible with the fan switch. Additionally, it will likely draw more than the switch’s capacity.

Ask the electrician about the device’s draw. Here are the specs. Since it’s a mixed load, I’m not quite sure how to spec it. It is a relay-based switch though, so it ought to be compatible.

  • Maximum General Purpose Load: 1800 Watts for both 120V and 277V
  • Maximum Resistive Load: 15 Amps for both 120V and 277V
  • Maximum Lighting Load (Watts): 120V AC - 960W Incandescent, 600W LED/CFL, 277V AC - 1385W Incandescent, 600W LED/CFL
  • Maximum Motor Load: 1/2 Horsepower for both 120V and 277V

Ok, so in theory one of the inovelli on/off switches should be fine? I’ll see if I can find the specs myself before he comes.

They’re in my post.

Sorry, I meant to get the details about the heater itself.
