Hi @Eric_Inovelli, any updates on the canopy? Some of us know you guys are working on it, ignore the others who’ve forgotten what they signed up for.
I would also love an update. I have two modules both in an awkwardly high ceiling and have had to reset them three times in the past three months.
It’s annoying enough that the next time it happens I’m just biting the bullet - running new wire through the ceiling and trashing them.
I also experience this issue. I have two VTM36s connected to a VTM31-SN. About twice a week I need to pull the air gap on the VTM31 to reset the canopy modules, which become unresponsive randomly. Occurs to both modules, not at the same time without any identifiable pattern. Makes the whole family crazy.
Bump
Any update on this?
I’ve posted about a similar issue which may ended up being the same issue. But for me, it completely disconnected from the thread network after a power outage so flipping the breaker does nothing for me.
I’ve had 2 days of storming here in GA and it does seem to matter if the power goes out for a minute or an hour. The canopy module will just randomly disconnect and needs to be factory reset… again.
Kinda glad this happened cause I was fixing to buy another but think I’ll hold off now.
Happened to me for the first time, but because I Installed it to the dimmer like the guide suggested (wiring it so the fan module always has power, not just by setting smart bulb mode), I can’t reset it with air gapping the smart switch.
I think the thing that gets me isn’t the bug, it’s new products being prioritized over existing ones not working
Very aware that this is not a “solution” so much as advice going forward…
The On/Off switch operates exactly the same as a Dimmer when paired to a Canopy Module in smart bulb mode, while still allowing you to run the module off of the Load terminal on the switch. This way, if needed, you can pull that air gap tab and kill power.
While I believe the Red series doesn’t have an On/Off switch yet (or a Canopy module in that case), they should really be pushing an On/Off and Canopy combo where possible instead of the Dimmer and Canopy combo on their order pages.
I’m wondering if I can’t have the electrician back out to rewire the smart dimmer to work like regular dimmers if instead of hard wired for “always on” if I can get air gapping ability……
To be able to air gap the canopy module from the switch, you need to have an On/Off switch (VTM30-SN) installed.
When using the Dimmer in smart bulb mode (always on), any load connected will always go through the dimming hardware. The Dimmer doesn’t support inductive loads, so this is not good if running the fan through the Load terminal.
The On/Off switch, on the other hand, does support both inductive and resistive loads, allowing you to connect the canopy module through the Load terminal on the switch, giving you the option to pull the air gap and kill power to the canopy module.
When set to smart bulb mode, the On/Off switch will behave exactly like the Dimmer will when controlling the canopy module, so you won’t lose any fuctionality.
