VZM32-SN mmWave XY tracking mirrors position and creates duplicate targets

I’m seeing some unusual XY target-position behaviour on one of my VZM32-SN switches.

Setup:

  • VZM32-SN

  • Firmware 1.02

  • Zigbee2MQTT

  • Home Assistant

  • This is a different switch, installed between my living room/dining room area

I created two mmWave zones: everything left of centre is the living room, and everything right of centre is the dining room.

What first made me notice the problem was the lighting automation. While walking through the dining room, there is an area roughly 1–1.5 m from the switch and about 60–70 degrees off centre where the switch suddenly reports me as being in the living-room zone instead.

I then opened the XY visualizer to see what was happening.

As I walk into that particular area, a second target appears on the opposite side of the switch, essentially as a mirror image of my actual position. For a short time, both my real position and the mirrored position can appear at the same time. If I remain there for a few seconds, my actual target can disappear completely and only the mirrored target remains.

If I move to other areas of the dining-room zone, tracking generally works correctly.

I’ve also seen targets jump abruptly between positions or target IDs, along with what appear to be duplicate/ghost targets. In general, the tracking seems more stable farther away from the switch.

Has anyone else seen similar XY mirroring or duplicate targets with their VZM32-SN?
