What mode should I be using for Blue On/Off Switch?

Hi everyone! I just got my Inovelli switches installed. (Blue, on/off). I had an electrician install them, because I’m a big fraidy cat.

After he left, I paired them all with Home Assistant. (BTW, the QR code in the instruction manual doesn’t go to a web page.) So far, so good.

I’ve got automations for them all set up, except (of course) the one room in the house that’s used by people that are not huge fans of automation.

What I’m trying to do is set up the switch so that when you turn it on, it turns on three wired lights, ignores one wired light, and turns on a light in another room that it’s not wired to.

I’m currently using “device” for the switch and choosing “up” or “down” for the automations. Should I be using something at the entity level? Smart Bulb? I’m using three wired Hue bulbs and one non wired Govee light through Govee 2 MQTT and ignoring the wired Tuya light.

So it sounds like you have four lights wired to the switch, and they are all smart bulbs. You’ll have to put the switch into the Smart Bulb Mode so all four bulbs are continuously powered.

For all five bulbs (the non-wired Govee included which is hopefully powered full time) you have two methods through which you can control them via the switch:

1 - Automations - Code a single press up and down to action on or off, respectively.

2 - Binding - Even though it’s an on/off switch, it can act as a dimmer via binding.

Binding will only work with Zigbee bulbs on the same Zigbee mesh. Since this is a mix of different bulb types, automations is probably easier.

Thank you!

If you’re running Z2M, I have a blueprint (linked here) that makes automation setup really easy. If you’re running ZHA, I don’t know if there’s a similar blueprint (I haven’t used it in ~5 years).

Thank you! I am currently using ZHA, but toying with the idea of moving back to Z2M, so I’ll check it out!
