White Series Dimmer Switch Firmware Changelog | VTM31-SN

I would love to access to the latest firmware. I’m using Homey as my hub in addition to Apple Home. I’ve been running into issues fixed in 1.0.6 and 1.1.0. The biggest problem I have is with switches with Smart Bulb Mode enabled. I add them to Apple Home, and then to Homey, but Homey keeps loosing connection to them. Sometime when the power goes out, sometimes randomly when it doesn’t. None of the switches with Smart Bulb Mode off have this problem. I’ve also had some problems where the air gap switch isn’t turning off of the switch, and ironically every case has also been with Smart Bulb Mode on. And I’ve got one completely dead switch, but that can’t be helped by a firmware update.

(I’ve have 3R-Installer installed, also I have a Home Assistant instance I’m experimenting with, if I can’t update through Homey or Apple Home.)

And in case I implied otherwise, the dead switch was not one of the Smart Bulb mode enabled switches. Sorry I lumped it in there.

Are you saying the problem was fixed in firmware 1.0.6 and 1.1.0 and you need the firmware on other switches or are you saying you want to see if it is fixed in those versions?

Are you sure that you have line and load corrected the correct way around? The air-gap disconnects the line (unswitched) power from the switch (and also hence from the load). If the air-gap is not working (switch and load do not power down when it is pulled) either the air-gap switch has failed internally (it’s a mechanical switch) or you have line (un-switched power) and load (power to-bulb) reversed.

The release notes for 1.0.6 and 1.1.0 both show fixes for issues I see. I don’t see any fixes that I think fixes the problem with Smart Bulb Mode, but I’m always hopeful. (Tried sending this via email, but it bounced.)

I will check and get back to you. When I installed the first one, I checked everything and made sure it was right. Given its new construction, I figured they’d wire every switch the same. Maybe not.

Gotcha, the ones having issues in Smart Bulb mode, are you using binding by chance?

Nope, I wish I was. I’m trying to find time for HomeAssistant so I can get that working. I’m kust using Matter Multi-Admin (added to Home, shared to Homey).

Could I get info to install the beta firmware via homeassistant? I’m seeing some connectivity issues I think may be fixed by it. Thanks!

I’ll PM you.

@EricM_Inovelli I continue to get some flicker (much less than before the latest firmware I tested for you, but still present in annoying ways) on all the switches in the house. Is there a chance that this latest firmware you’re currently beta testing is going to further improve the situation?

I still believe the flicker is caused at least in part by network hiccups due to radio comms failures between certain groups of switches that causes the Thread network to rebalance… hoping also for a someday-maybe feature that allows me to set radio transmission power per device…

There was further optimization in fw 1.1.0 so it might be worth testing on one of your switches. Instructions you used in the past should still be relevant.

I recently updated my White Series Dimmer Switch to the beta firmware version 1.1.1 to see if it would resolve the occasional issue I was experiencing where the switch would sometimes become unresponsive. So far, everything seems to be working fine, which is great news.

However, I’ve noticed something that I’d like to confirm with the community (and I assume this might be expected since it’s a beta release). In a SmartThings environment, the parameter configuration no longer appears to work properly, even after performing a factory reset on the device. At the moment, I’m configuring the switch manually using the physical button combination sequences, which works as a workaround.

Could anyone confirm if this behavior is normal for the beta version, or if there’s something I might be missing?

You bring up something a little tricky with ST. The configuration options are statically set in the driver and can’t be dynamically read from the device like with other platforms. This makes it so we will have to have multiple drivers for multiple firmware versions. I will have to make a driver for 1.1.1 to resolve this. I think we can probably have a “prod” driver that reflects what the certified firmware has and then release beta driver for any variation in the beta firmware.

Got it, thanks for the feedback. I’ll wait for the official version then. Thanks to the advantages of Matter, I can still temporarily present the device to Home Assistant to adjust the configuration if needed.

I actually was able to find a way to make the driver switch to a different profile based on a firmware version. It should automatically update for you within the next day or so, but if not try pulling down on the device page to refresh the device.

Thank you, Eric, for your efforts—it’s working. I can also confirm that the other VTM31-SN units still on version 1.0.5 have retained their parameters, while those upgraded to version 1.1.1 now show the new parameters. The LED Effect parameter even appeared in this version.

This isn’t an issue for me, but I’ve noticed that some parameters I don’t use are accessible in HA, yet not available in SmartThings settings in either version (1.0.5 or 1.1.1). If you ever need a list of the missing parameters to refine the final SmartThings driver, I’d be happy to help.

Can you let me know? It might be cluster specific settings that aren’t part of the “mode select” config, but maybe I missed something.

If it is not too late, I’d love to Beta test the updated firmware. I’ve got the switches in both Apple Home and Hubitat. I’m trying to solve a nasty re-subscription issue with Hubitat and the Whites. I think the updated firmware has the fix depending on the “event-list” property.
