I’ve just installed my first Inovelli switch - white series - connected to HomeKit - just Apple hubs (ATV, ATV 4K & HomePod) and other than the Apple bug which makes it anyones guess how “Buttons 1, 2 and 3” will be mapped to the physical switch I’m really pleased with this. It compares very favorably IMHO to build quality of my other switches - all Caseta.
I have automatic updates for accessories turned on in HomeKit. So will I even get any notification when the Inovelli White gets a firmware update? Can I force an update sooner once it’s available if I’m aware of it?
Hi, just installed 2x White Series Matter/Thread Dimmer switches as an initial test before purchasing more for the rest of my automation project using Home Assistant
Working my way thru getting the first switch working and have had a frustrating time with the stability of the connectivity with Home Assistant - tried with Apple Home - similar experience
My Thread birder router is an Apple TV 4K - placed about 6 feet feet from the switch.
Any ETA on a firmware update - currently HA reports firmware is at v1.0.0 (Hardware v2.1)
I’ve been testing the 1.0.5 firmware and I’m pretty confident once it’s released your issues with connection stability will end. My initial switch was 1.0.0 and I experienced the same stability issues. My boarder router is also an Apple TV 4K that was 10-15 feet from the switch. The connection was stable except in the evenings when I was actually using the Apple TV 4K to stream various services (Netflix, Hulu, Prime etc) to a connected TV through an AV receiver. (Both the AVR and the TV were also HomeKit connected.) All the connectivity issues went away with a switch on 1.0.5. I’m waiting to order more until they’re available with at least 1.0.5 from Inovelli.
Thanks for that response - confirms it’s not just me and more importantly, there is a fix soon (hopefully)
As a matter (no pun intended) of interest, is your Apple TV hard wired or running wireless?
I have it only connected wireless.
Wondering if that may contribute to a less stable connection ?
Also, how did you get your hands on the beta version of the 1.0.5 firmware
The switch was sent from Inovelli. The Apple TV is wired but not wired - it’s wired to an Amplifi Alien router functioning in a mesh. However, that mesh Alien is WiFi 6 backhauled to the main Alien router. So from the Apple TV 4K’s perspective it is ethernet connected. But in reality it’s going over WiFi 6 to get to the main router. The 1.0.5 white has had no issues and I’ve tested the crap out of it trying to catch it not communicating after the mess with 1.0.0 and I’ve not been able to get it to falter.
I assume that every White Series customer received the email about firmware v1.0.5 being released to Apple and HA ecosystems on December 9th, with additional platforms to follow shortly…
The upgraded firmware installed without fanfare on HA for me a few minutes ago.
It is worth mentioning that despite HA saying the upgrade was successful, HA still showed that the switch was running v1.0.0 when I checked. A Matter re-interview did not pick up the new firmware version info, but it did finally show up after I reloaded the Matter integration…
So it’s 12/10 and the firmware was supposed to be released 12/09. And the Inovelli announcement email said Home Assistant and HomeKit were to be in the first ecosystems it was released to. Unsurprisingly, it looks like HA is faster to move through than Apple. I have no doubt Inovelli released it to Apple on 12/9 as they promised. No idea how long it will take Apple to push it out though.
Support emailed me and confirmed it’s with Apple to release on their schedule:
“We sent the firmware update out to Apple, so it is in their hands and is currently waiting on them to push it out to customers. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything that can be done until Apple sends it out.”
