White Series on/off switch buttons not responding but relay works in app

**I ordered two of the White Series On/Off Switches. I installed one in the main bathroom and finally got around to installing the other one in the guest bathroom. I am using them with the exhaust fans in the bathroom. The main bathroom has a new fan installed and the installation of the switch worked flawlessly.
Unfortunately, I am experiencing some odd behaviors with the quest bathroom. At first I thought it was because the exhaust fan in that bathroom is old, but as I tried diagnosing the problem that seems to not be a factor.

Symptoms: the buttons work for a short time after factory reseting the switch, then they stop working most of the time. Occasionally it’ll react after 1-2 minutes. Looking in home assistant the button actions don’t log the button press unless it happens to work, even after 1-2 minutes. The strange thing is that I can turn the fan on and off instantly through home assistant with maybe a 1 sec delay.**

Also, the RGB indicator light doesn’t work (the bright version of the bar) the status indicator kinda works; it will go brighter when the fan does go on and dims when it’s off. Occasionally it will go completely off. Can’t change the color at all.

I’ve tried changing a bunch of settings like making sure it’s on instant mode, but nothing seems to work. Is this just a hardware issue between the buttons and the relay?

Well, I fixed it. In an attempt to rule out wiring or the fan load, I decided to swap devices to see if the issues persisted. Strangely they didn’t. Since the wire connections are straight on I was able to make sure that there were no changes in the wires during the switch.

The only thing I can figure is that there wasn’t a strong connection to one of the wires, but I checked that twice before trying the swap. The RGB light is even working now. It’s just confusing why some things worked but not others. I guess I’ll never know.
