Actually, I think this link does help somewhat. I think I need to do the same sort of thing, but the color of the wires is different. So need to figure that out, but it seems it is definitely doable.
EDIT: yup, that link did it. It wasn’t apparent that the link was relevant until I opened up the fan and saw the internal wiring was similar. Thanks!
