3-way dumb switch unexpected behavior after updating firmware

Over the past few days I’ve been updating my 25+ Blue smart dimmer switches from 16908818 to 16909060 via Home Assistant/Zigbee2mqtt.

I have one 3-way that is different from all other circuits in my house. I can’t quite remember but I believe it’s load in both boxes with neutral like this: https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/799255755/fc9afe83f21a838395a43373/Inovelli-2-1-Blue-Series-3-Way-Pole-Neutral-Installation-Line-Load-In-Both-Boxes-Aux-Switch.png?expires=1775096100&signature=088d78360dfdc2e3940ea2b4d47f76aabf92b66ce4da53c5c1958720724a0185&req=cykuFMx7moRaFb4f3HP0gERAyPB6I7EFjP0e%2F6UrD2yu4V0lE7WgjGC89ZSX

I have this one set up with a single Blue switch + a dumb switch. The blue switch is set up as “3-way dumb switch” with output mode as “on/off” and relay click disabled (sound click on).

Prior to updating this configuration worked fine for over a year.

After updating I can turn the switch on/off from the blue switch.

If blue switch is off, dumb switch does nothing.

If blue switch is on, toggling dumb switch turns off the light and the blue switch light bar flashes ~1/s on/off. If i look in zigbee2mqtt i see the switch actually toggling on and off. The light does not flash on or off though.

Is there a bug in the firmware update? Something else?

Have you verified that the settings on the switch are still correct after the firmware update?

Yes verified and re-applied key settings

Well, not sure then…

I would probably try changing the switch type to single pole, then changing it back to 3-way Dumb Switch to see if that does anything.

And if not, try pulling the air gap to power cycle it.

And lastly, if none of that works, do a hard reset and add it back to the network, going through and doing all the settings again.

@EricM_Inovelli could this be similar to the problem with White Series dimmers where a new firmware option was added to adjust the sensitivity of dumb switch detection.

Yes, exactly. With the change of dimming algorithm there is also a change in the aux and dumb switch detection. We have found some rare cases where this situation occurs. @dmk there is a beta firmware that would be great if you could test so we can see if it resolves the issue. I will PM you about it.

Sounds good - happy to test.

@EricM_Inovelli - after updating to beta firmware as instructed, behavior seems better but still incorrect.

If my dumb switch is toggled down, i can turn light on and off with smart switch

If my dumb switch is toggled up, the smart switch is dodgy. Hitting up sometimes causes the smart switch to flash on/off (and toggle on off in z2m). If I press up a few times eventually it toggles on and stays on and the light comes on.

Starting from the light on - toggling the dumb switch turns off the light and the smart switch starts flashing, toggling on and off with the light staying off.

If i toggle the dumb switch again, sometimes the light turns on, sometimes it turns on/off/on and stays on. Previously nothing would turn the light on in this configuration and it would always flash on/off with no light change.

@dmk there is a z2m PR that should hit the dev version in the next day or so. It should add this configuration option:

Could you test the configuration option by increasing to 1, test it, 2 test it, etc? You can also do this by the button combo method mentioned in the white series thread.

@EricM_Inovelli - ok I used the button combo method. I had to do it a few times (saw the purple bar increasing). It now works the same way it was previously.

Great, once the PR makes it through z2m hit the little refresh button on that config option as I am curious which value worked for you.
