Config button interfering with paddle operation

I have suggested this to @Eric_Inovelli also. I think this is the better solution ! Also adding a second config button with a lower profile is also another solution and will suggest that also.

My wife got me a 3D printer for Christmas that I’ve been playing with a lot. This morning I modeled the config button in some design software and altered it to make it shorter. The first one was about 0.1mm recessed from the baseplate. I’m trying some differing heights but was happy with how it looked as a replacement. The white filament I’ve been using is essentially a color match.
Let me know if the config button model file would be helpful for anyone.
Here is a picture of the first print that’s very slightly recessed. And the button functions normally.

I would love to try this out. I’m wondering if I would prefer having it slightly recessed or just slightly risen. Any way you can make a file for both scenario?

I have white filament, but I wonder if it would be cool to try out some different colors (as @Ma2J mentioned) .

I’ve been teaching myself Fusion 360 and was toying with the idea of doing exactly that. Would love to see your model.

I’d be interested in the file, that looks great.

I’m out of town through the weekend but will get the design file for the config button dispersed. It may be easiest for everyone if I put it on thingiverse (although I’ve never done that so it could create more problems than simply sending it individually!). I’ll let everyone know.

I’d be interested also in having a file to get a few 3D printed. I’m hitting the config button on accident as well and it’s only a matter of time before my wife complains about it. :astonished:

I can put it on thingiverse if you have not already

I uploaded the files to Thingiverse and the link is below. I included the ‘flush’, 1mm, and 1.7mm height files. In addition, the file for the original config button is included if people would like to utilize that.
Let me know if you note something that could use improving and I’ll try to help out. New to 3d printing and designing so tips and suggestions are welcome.
Note: if you install one of the printed buttons and need to remove it, it will likely get some dents in it (from my experience) due to the PLA being softer. But they’re so easy to print it shouldn’t be a problem. Just an FYI.

Thanks very much. This will come in handy. Cheers!

Hi flipontheradio,

Question: how did you get the button out of the frame?

I have removed the frame from the switch, but can’t get the button out. I tried lightly prying between the frame and button, in case there is a ledge that it snaps into. But I didn’t want to crack it.

Can you offer any advice?

Thanks!

just push hard on the config button in the direction you would using it, it takes some force to push it out since there is a resistance piece beside it to keep it from falling out.

I used a small flat head screw driver to very carefully pry the button up and out. It’s requires very little force and even pushing on the button as you do it from the front side helps it slip out.

Thanks so much for these. They are working great in my testing of different sizes. I chose the black on white look. Mostly because I didn’t want to change out my filament.

Be cooler with a clear configuration button with LED behind there.

Glad they’re working for you! Let me know if you note any changes that might be worth trying. I haven’t had a chance to do many test prints after the designing.
That black on white looks great!

Terk, Greg,

Thanks for the feedback! That’s kind of what I was expecting, but wanted expert confirmation; I didn’t want to force it, especially since they don’t have white replacements!

Here you go!
