White Dimmer Can't ID Power State After 1.1.5 Update

I have a White dimmer installed in a neutral configuration with one 4 way and one 3 way between the dimmer and the load. On 1.0.5 it worked as expected. After upgrading to 1.1.5 it behaves as though it cannot detect whether the load is connected or disconnected by the multiways downstream. For example, with the lights on, if I hit the paddle down on the dimmer, the lights transition down to 0 and the relay clicks off. The panel LED briefly goes dim to indicate the load is switched off, then the LED lights back up even though the load remains off. Hitting down again repeats this sequence except that the load turns back on (because dimmer toggles the travelers). Hitting paddle up has no effect because the dimmer thinks the load is always connected.

I’ve seen this behavior in a different circuit with another White on 1.0.5 firmware which had 4 multiways between the dimmer and the load. In this case I assumed there was just too much copper between the dimmer and the load for the dimmer to detect the state of the circuit. I remedied that by replacing the dumb switches with Aux’s, which worked fine.

I’ve tried factory resetting the dimmer, removed it and readded it to HA, and updated the configuration to Multi-way with Traditional Dumb Switches. Has anything changed in 1.1.5 that modified multiway load detection? Does anyone have any ideas that I might try to diagnose and fix this issue? Can I roll back to 1.0.5?

Thanks!

I have noticed the same problem too, using Apple Home. White Dimmer + dumb 4-way + dumb 3-way. Worked fine with 1.0.5 firmware. With 1.1.5, when controlling the lights via either dumb switch, the lights follow command but the status in the app gets out-of-sync.

This is an issue that some others of seen and has been discussed in another topic here in the last week or so. It relates to how the Dimmer detects the status of Dumb switches. There is a 1.1.6r1 Beta version out there (currently for HA only I believe). This version allows a “Dumb Test” parameter to be changed from HA and provides tap sequences for platforms like Apple Home that do not support mode-select parameters. I assume that it will roll out via test-net as a beta (which will make it available to Apple Home users) after Inovelli has some more experience with it.

More info is in this post and this post by @EricM_Inovelli

@VonSquid there is a beta firmware available to Apple Home users now (as @andrewk has mentioned). I’ll PM you with the details on how to install it.
