I’m having a difficult time figuring out how to use individual LEDs for notifications.
They are too blended to truly be used as individuals.
I have some HomeSeer dimmers that have a 7 LED strip, but they are distinct LEDs, unlike Inovelli that also has 7 LEDs, but are blended to appear as one LED strip.
Here’s a pic of my HomeSeer dimmer with LED 1 set to green and LED 2 set to cyan.
And a pic of my Inovelli Blue Smart Dimmer with the same settings.
With the Inovelli dimmer, I can’t tell what the individual colors are; it just blends to an overall ugly appearance. With the HomeSeer dimmer, I can clearly tell LED 1 is green and LED 2 is cyan.
I haven’t tried this - I use the entire strip for my notifications - but I’m guessing the best way to create separation is to put unlike colors together. It wouldn’t be the most appealing appearance but at least you can tell the difference between teal and orange at the bottom and green and red at the top.
The diffuser is causing the issues with individual LED notifications. Inovelli spoke of possibly making a different diffuser available, but that hasn’t been discussed in some time.
@adamkempenich was prototyping a solution. Thread below.
Yes, the diffuser hurts the usability a lot. LED1 or LED7 turned on at 99% will light up half the bar with the brightness fading as it gets to the middle. You can use LED 1 and 7 and see the colors clearly. Adding LED4 also isn’t too bad. 2 of the LED side by side is pretty much useless as you’ve found.
Don’t forget, when you do a notification on one LED the other LEDs are still potentially on and those still being on can also muck up the visibility.
I am interested in doing the same thing. I opened up one of my switches, and the diffuser is just a flat small piece of translucent plastic. I’m thinking I could 3D print a replacement that is the same size and shape but has light pipes, alternating translucent and opaque filaments for the individual LEDs and the spaces in between. It hasn’t been a priority for me yet, but looks and sounds simple enough to do.
